EARTH HOUR this Saturday!

Hello 3F and parents,

Earth Hour will be commemorated at the Marina Bay Promotory this Saturday 26 March 2011.  This has become an Annual Event and we are all invited once again to switch off all non-essential lighting for an hour + this Saturday from 8:30-9:30pm. May I invite all of you to join in this year!  Here are some ideas you can use with your children this Saturday:

Candlelit activities
:
  • play games – cards, board games, etc
  • do shadow puppet theater
  • have a late candlelit dinner or wait to have dessert by candlelight
Flashlight activities:
  • play flashlight tag or flashlight Simon Says
  • have everyone pile in bed together, let the kids hold the flashlight while you hold the book and read
  • learn the morse code and create secret messages
  • tell ghost stories
More Indoor activities:
  • meditate – prepare beforehand and have some thoughts or quotes or scriptures ready
  • have a good old fashioned sing along – camp songs, silly songs, hymns, etc
Outdoor activities:
  • Christchurch Secondary School will be organising a Stargazing @ Earth Hour this year from 7pm-10pm in their school premises.  The guest of honour is Dr Md Maliki Osman.  There will also be a talk by Prof Ng Beng Koon from NTU.
  • If it's a clear night and you prefer time with your family, find an open grass area (there are plenty near our school), lie down on a groundsheet and star gaze (find printable star charts here)
  • Do the above flashlight games, outdoors

"On Earth Hour hundreds of millions of people around the world will come together to call for action on climate change by doing something quite simple—turning off their lights for one hour. The movement symbolizes that by working together, each of us can make a positive impact in this fight, protecting our future and that of future generations." - World Wide Fund (WWF)
